The Hose-Cat (Coupling Assist Tool) is a state-of-the-art tool to aid firefighters in the handling of hose couplings. When loading hose beds in the past, firefighters would often not properly tighten the hose couplings. This practice, although wrong, was acceptable to insure quick uncoupling by the pump operator who is almost always left alone to uncouple the hose. This poor practice still exists in departments that do not employ the Hose-Cat system.
